Luciana & James
Because everything in the garden starts from a seed, we start with essentials for sowing and caring for your future produce. In addition to providing healthy, home grown organic vegetables, gardening is an opportunity to connect with earth.
We use Sementes Vivas for high quality organic and biodynamic seeds for vegetable, flowers and herbs.
Having high quality tools is fundamental for effective gardening. How many times have we bought cheap tools only to find ourselves frustraded, and worse of all, not being able to get the job done! Not worth it. Buy good, buy once. As James always says “pay peanuts, get monkeys“
More FELCO tools here.
After thorough research, these are the machines we bought since moving to the Orange Bloom Homestead. (When we could not find the exact matching item, we indicate the closest alternative)
Winter or summer, it is fundamental to be comfortable in the garden. We thought it would be fun to show you our favourite garden gear, starting with James. Well, James is as english as they come when it comes to country dresscode. Yes, Hunter boots, Barbour jakets, flat cap, you name it! This is his trademark winter look.
A “tropical flower“, as her dear friend and former professional gardener Tisha affectionately calls her, Luciana has nothing traditional about her! She is a sun worshiper and weather allowing, she goes around the garden barefoot, leaving her with terribly dry feet… but with a blissful soul! Her favourite look is casual but in style.
“Emerging evidence shows that contact with the Earth—whether being outside barefoot or indoors connected to grounded conductive systems—may be a simple, natural, and yet profoundly effective environmental strategy against chronic stress, ANS dysfunction, inflammation, pain, poor sleep, disturbed HRV, hypercoagulable blood, and many common health disorders, including cardiovascular disease.”

After a full season of tender love and caring for our vegetable gardens and orchards, it’s time to harvest the sweet fruit of our labour. There is nothing more rewarding than harvest time! This busy time of the year can be made more efficient with these few helpful tools.
The kitchen is where magic happens! After the labour of love of sowing seeds, transplanting seedlings, watering, caring and harvesting our delicious vegetables and fruits, the kitcken is where they are transformed and prepared to become nourishment for our bodies. Our homesteading kitchen tools are not many, crazy expensive or complicated, but just enough to do the job.
